Charles Gill, JrI got to meet and hang out with Hulk and his daughter Brooke when I was working in radio. She performed here at the Chameleon Club in Lancaster, Pennsylvania in 2007. She was touring with her father at the time. Word spread quickly that he was here and everyone wanted to meet him, including Lancaster City police officers.
They wanted to be close by the venue so they booked a room at an up and coming hotel, i.e. the Lancaster Arts Hotel, which wasn’t even finished yet. This place was just opening and only had a few rooms ready for guests.
They wanted to be booked under his real name, Terry Bollea. The staff didn’t make the connection at the hotel and were caught off guard when he walked through the door. The staff at the hotel referred to his room as The Hulk Hogan room.
From what I experienced he was exactly as he appeared on TV. Polite and welcoming to all that wanted to shake his hand or get a photo. He could turn it on and be intense or completely relaxed and down to earth.His catch phrase “hey brother” must have come out of his mouth a hundred times. It was just like being ringside. He even came out to hype the crowd up with his trademark windmill arm to ear cup before Brooke’s set.
So unreal to see such an icon gone. Never knew much about his personal life, but he was a standup guy from my interaction with him. Super nice guy as was his daughter. It was a fun day I will never forget. Rest easy, brother.
